Food insecurity in households with children and adolescents under the intersectionality between gender and race/skin color

A new study in CSP analyzes 57,920 households from the 2017-2018 Family Budget Survey and identified that 36.7% of families experienced some level of food insecurity.

The findings indicate that this percentage rises to 51.3% when there are two or more children/adolescents in the household. Family income and the race/color and gender of the head of household strongly influence this scenario.

The study further reinforces that food insecurity in Brazil is determined by historical, socioeconomic, and racial inequalities.
