How do people with Alzheimer’s disease understand and express their condition?
📝A qualitative study with Brazilians with mild and moderate Alzheimer’s identified different ways of representing the disease, from biological or psychosocial explanations to cultural minimization strategies, such as calling the condition “Zazá”.
📚The results show that perceptions are shaped by personal experiences, emotions, and cultural contexts, and that understanding these narratives is essential for more humane and respectful care.
