A study conducted using data from the 2019 National Health Survey investigated, at a national level, the association between excessive alcohol consumption and inconsistent condom use among single Brazilian adults who do not live with a partner.
The results indicate that excessive alcohol consumption is associated with lower condom use across all age groups and in both sexes. Among young adults (18 to 24 years old), the probability of inconsistent use increased by almost 15%, while among those aged 25 to 39 the increase was approximately 14%, and among those aged 40 to 59, it was 12%.
