A study involving 22-year-old participants from the Pelotas Birth Cohort investigated the relationship between multimorbidity and inflammatory markers, such as interleukin 6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), and adiponectin.
The results showed that women with multimorbidity had lower levels of adiponectin, while in men there was a positive association between the number of diseases and the inflammatory markers IL-6 and CRP.
A pro-inflammatory trend was also noted in the presence of multimorbidity or an accumulation of diseases, reinforcing the inverse relationship between IL-6/CRP and adiponectin. Read the full article on the CSP website.
