A study using data from the 2019 National Health Survey investigates the factors associated with episodic binge drinking in the adult population of Northeast Brazil, according to race/color.
The findings indicate that consumption was more prevalent among men, young people, those with higher incomes, physically active individuals, smokers, and those with inadequate eating habits.
Although the prevalence was similar between whites (16.6%) and blacks (17.6%), the associated factors varied between the groups. Among blacks, education level, seeking health services, and negative self-assessment of health were significant factors. Among whites, chronic diseases and overweight/obesity were the main associated factors.
