Reflections on the 5th PPGS and the Challenges Facing Public Health
The February issue of CSP presents the main discussions from the 5th Brazilian Congress on Health Policy, Planning, and Management (5th PPGS), organized by Abrasco. With the theme “Policy, Knowledge, and Practices: Resistance and Insurgency in Confronting Health Inequities,” the event featured reflections on structural inequalities and the challenges facing Public Health in light of the country’s political, social, and environmental complexity.
“Following a 5th PPGS with this focus, the importance of these Abrasco meetings for the accumulation of scientific knowledge and the agenda for mobilizing Public Health, in defense of democracy and the SUS, is reaffirmed,” state the authors.
The 5th PPGS highlighted the need for intersectional approaches to strengthen equitable public policies, the impact of environmental and climate crises on health, and the importance of aligning federal management with science in the formulation of policies for the SUS.
