Are we moving towards medication safety in Brazil? A study analyzing data from the National Assessment of Patient Safety Practices between 2016 and 2023 helps answer this question.
The results show significant progress up to 2019, with a reduction in non-conformities in the medication process. However, from 2020 onwards, this progress stagnates, remaining around 6%, a scenario possibly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even with improvements, medication safety remains among the main critical points in Brazilian hospitals, revealing challenges in the effective implementation of practices in the daily routine of services. The research also indicates greater conformity in structure than in processes, suggesting a mismatch between existing protocols and their practical application.
